One of the most fun little projects I have done (JonGustafsson.com) was this short video for a Reykjavik based helicopter company when they took tourists on observation flights over a live volcano and flowing lava. After an hour on the mountain (200 meters away from the eruption) I don't really know what it feels like to stand next to a live volcano but I know what it looks like in my viewfinder. This was my first helicopter shoot and done without a budget. There was no camera rig and everything shot hand-held. These days I mostly work for ReykjavikHelicopters.com.
Eyjafjallajokull. Today we landed roughly one kilometer away from the eruption. I shot this for a Reykjavik based helicopter company and the other helicopter is from the Icelandic Coastguard. For more photos and videos you can visit me at JonGustafsson.com. I used a Canon 5d using a gyro stabilizer. Used two lenses: 16-35mm and 70-200.
Twilight by the volcano in Eyjafjallajokull. Filmed from the town of Hvolsvollur. Spent most of the day flying ove the eruption with the Helicopter Service of Iceland but grabbed this in the twilight before we headed back home for the night.
