The First Assistant Director is one of the most misunderstood of all positions among the show business crafts. The job title indicates someone who is in a subordinate position; the actuality is one of the most important in all of show business. It is up to the first assistant director to, in effect, "produce" the set: he or she is responsible for coordinating EVERYTHING that is there; navigating the sometimes rough waters of departmental egos; making sure that time and money are balanced with art; and to ensure that at all times, safety is observed. Watch as First AD Greg Zekowski takes you through this sometimes mysterious, always challenging world.
ABOUT THE SERIES...
"Digital Media Industry Insiders" is a series of instructional videos featuring entertainment industry newcomers interviewing pros on all aspects of how the industry works, strategies for entering a particular field, and what areas are primed for greatest job growth.
Sponsored by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Department of Economic and Workforce Development Information Communication Technologies and Digital Media Sector Los Angeles Region.
Our videos are organized by career pathway, with industry pros representing each sector. Each pro is interviewed by recent industry incomers not only in their particular area but also in other crafts to show how the different aspects of production work together -- and where confusions can arise!
