Independent producer Ken Sanders of Shadowland Production has produced over thirty-five movies that have aired on Lifetime and other cable channels. He began making super 8 films when he was a pre-teen; many of them were screened at a local university. Attending USC as the first class of "filmic writers," Ken decided to start his career as an independent producer. The result was "BLOOD SALVAGE," a film he uses as a prime example of what NOT to do. Taking a step back, he became a development exec for the company Image Organization. Rising quickly through the ranks, he eventually became a producer and shot several films in Canada. Returning to Hollywood, Ken began independent producing once again -- this time forearmed with a strong resume. He continues to make four to five films a year. In this series of interviews, Ken is not only candid about his past, but offers strong advice for those who want to go the independent route.

ABOUT THE SERIES...
"Digital Media Industry Insiders" is a series of instructional videos featuring entertainment industry newcomers interviewing pros on all aspects of how the industry works, strategies for entering a particular field, and what areas are primed for greatest job growth.

Sponsored by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Department of Economic and Workforce Development Information Communication Technologies and Digital Media Sector Los Angeles Region.

Our videos are organized by career pathway, with industry pros representing each sector. Each pro is interviewed by recent industry incomers not only in their particular area but also in other crafts to show how the different aspects of production work together -- and where confusions can arise!
