GOPRO 3+ on helmet. A beautiful but also a extraordinary day. Two kitesurfers were resqued just in time. They had been surfing too far away and alone at sea. The wind was side (on)shore but was slowly turning more north and more sideshore. The current was out, towards open sea. One of the kiters was missed by his friend, who warned the coastguard. A SAR-operation started. After 3 to 4 ours of searching, a person was found, 4 miles from the coast, just before sunset. The people who resqued the kiter found out he was not the person they were looking for.... A few minutes later a second person was found, close to the first. Bodytemp. 31 degrees celsius.... One at a million to be found at open sea, just before dark, with only your head above the water in 3 meter waves and when nobody knows you are in trouble. (Their kites were released immediately when they crashed.)
Stay close to the shore in side-shore conditions and stay in the vicinity of other (kite)surfers... It was a beautiful day for kiteboarding and a special day for the people who were resqued.
Unfortunately, the elements are still underestimated sometimes.
