The Confucians in Indonesia experienced discrimination under the "New Order" regime (1967-2000) , when all the religion ritual related to Indonesian Chinese was banned and repressed. At that time all Chinese expression was strongly associated with a coup attempt by Partai Komunis Indonesia (PKI) in 1965. Confucianism was also excluded as nation's official religion and causing the Confucian is 'religionless', thus many of them, convert to other religion, mostly Buddha, for many reason such as to legitimate their civil rights. This documentary is following a family of Cheng Sin, 57 years old, a Confucian, leave in Tangerang, Banten. Cheng Sin has 7 sons and daughters, all of them are Buddhists.
Cheng Sin keeps his faith as Confucian but couldn't do anything when all his descent decided to be Buddhist. This condition makes him and his wife as the last confucian within his family. Ironically, this is happened when Chinese culture in Indonesia is in revival and the Chinese are forging new identities.
