Dave Roever is one of my most favorite people in the world. Dave was critically wounded in Vietnam, he has turned those scars into something beautiful. DaveRoever.Org
Now he helps our Wounded Warriors coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan do the same... get healed and then be used to heal others, especially students and teens all around the world. WoundedWarriorsAlliance.com
It’s our tenth “Honor Our Heroes” patriotic celebration on Sunday, July 1, 2012, 5pm – 10 pm. The free public event, inaugurated ten years ago in response to the September 11 terrorist attacks, is designed to thank and give back to those who safeguard our nation and communities as veterans, active military, law enforcement and fire safety officials.
Our first Honor Our Heroes celebration was in 2002, in response to the tragedy that struck our nation on September 11, 2001, and in obedience to the Bible’s command to “Give honor to whom honor is due”. Our commitment to uplift our community and honor our heroes is just as strong this year as it was in 2002 when we started this event. Last year, we were blessed to have the World Trade Center beams slated for the 9/11 Indianapolis Memorial on display along with the rich menu of civic, spiritual and entertainment offerings attendees have come to expect.
In the past, we have been honored to have special guests as Rep. Mike Pence, Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman, Major General R. Martin Umbarger, Veteran Dave Roever, the Mayor of Greenwood, IU Coach Tom Crean, Retired Lt. Spencer and Sgt. Joanne Moore, IMPD Motorcycle Drill Team, Camp Atterbury soldiers, and musical artists Jeff Deyo, Salvador, Sanctus Real. This year’s event will be bigger than ever.
The FREE EVENT kicks off at 5 p.m. with live music and entertainment on the main stage, surrounded by a large kids’ zone filled with carnival games, climbing walls, food from local restaurants, and a complimentary food & hospitality area for active military that are present. Meanwhile, guests can also enjoy a display of military and emergency vehicles.
The ceremony then begins at 8:45 p.m. featuring many special dignitaries and guests, followed by a special gift and recognition of each veteran, active military, law enforcement and fire safety officer present. A 5000-balloon launch, pyrotechnics and one of the area’s largest fireworks displays will conclude the event at approximately 10 p.m.
Come out and join us as we “Honor our Heroes.
