"Big, Bent Ears" (bigbentears.org) is a multimedia series about listening, composed by Durham, NC-based documentary nonprofit Rock Fish Stew (rockfishstew.org). It was commissioned by the legendary New York print magazine, The Paris Review—its first-ever foray into multimedia.
In 2014, Rock Fish Stew documented a performance by the JACK Quartet at the Morgan Library & Museum, at the exhibition "Cy Twombly: Treatise on the Veil" (September 26, 2014 through January 25, 2015).
The JACK (John Pickford Richards, Ari Streisfeld, Otto Christopher, Kevin McFarland) performed pieces from "Studies for Treatise on the Veil" by contemporary German composer Matthias Pintscher. The performance took place in front of Cy Twombly's monumental, 33-foot-long Treatise on the Veil (Version Two).
"Big, Bent Ears: Chapter Six" contains interviews with the members of the JACK, as well as with the Morgan's curator Isabelle Dervaux. The performances took place the night of November 20, 2014.
