Japan

  1. Filmed over 2 weeks in Tokyo, Japan. I first visited Tokyo nearly 10 years ago and was swept away by its futuristic society steeped in ancient culture. Scenes include Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Roppongi, Asakusa, Tsukiji fish market, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge at Odaiba, Tokyo Tower, Yokohama, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Nikko world-heritage shrines.

As we visited during the New Year, we were lucky to attend the "dezuiri" sumo ring-entering ceremony, which you'll see in the opening shot. We also captured "yumi hajime" (first archery practice of the year) as well as "hatsumode" (first shrine visit of the year) at Asakusa.

Other shots include Shinjuku, Shibuya, Roppongi Hills, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge at Odaiba, Tokyo Tower, Tsukiji fish market, Yokohama, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Nikko world-heritage shrines.

  2. 一人: 東京の夏 (Hitori: Tōkyō No Natsu). Hitori itself translates as alone, one person or oneself.

This was my second time in Tokyo and unlike the last trip I had the means to shoot footage. I chose to keep things simple to portray how the week unfolded. Admittedly there are some bad shots due to exposure issues but I decided to keep these as I felt they are just as important as the others. The sky was an over cast nightmare due to typhoon season and not being able to avoid the 12 - 3 midday sun. If anyone is interested in locations just ask. Everything was shot on the 550D using the kit 18-55 and a Sigma f/ 1.4 28mm. Edited and graded in AE.

Music: Sinitus Tempo- Uchi he Kaerou and Tokimonsta- Almost Free.

  3. Filmed over a week in Kyoto and its surrounding areas. I''ve been to Kyoto many times before and always wanted to capture the beauty of its atmosphere. The place has an mysterious feeling, with ancient temples and tranquil forests.

Scenes include the Golden Pavilion Temple, Fushimi Inari, Kiyomizu Temple, Gion, Ryoanji, Todaiji, and Arashiyama. We also made trips out to nearby Osaka, Nara, and Koyasan. Especially in the winter, the snow was beautiful in the Mount Koya world-heritage.
