  1. Millones de Mariposas monarca vuelan hasta 4,500 kilómetros desde Canadá y EEUU para pasar el invierno en México.
    Durante su estancia se cortejan, reproducen y nace la generación que volará en marzo de regreso; ninguna de ellas regresará a México, ya que su ciclo de vida dura sólo algunas semanas.

  3. Schooling gray reef sharks (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) at Fakarava's south pass (Tomakohua) in French Polynesia. This is likely the best pass in the world to see aggregating reef sharks. We normally dive the south pass on the incoming current. In the strong current, the sharks enter a sort of a dormant state, circling in place in order to pass water over their gills with the minimum effort. On a typical dive, one might see upwards of 650 sharks in 3 big "walls." I've been to the south pass of Fakarava three times now, and it is one of my favorite dive destinations in the world.

  5. Tapaculo-ferreirinho, Scytalopus pachecoi, Planalto Tapaculo
    Segundo o biólogo que a descobriu, Giovanni Maurício, do Museu de Ciências e Tecnologia da PUCRS, até então os especialistas confundiam o tapaculo-ferreirinho com o tapaculo-preto ( Scytalopus speluncae ), que vive em áreas montanhosas da mata atlântica, do Espírito Santo ao Rio Grande do Sul. A nova espécie habita regiões altas do norte e nordeste do Rio Grande do Sul e do sudeste de Santa Catarina, podendo ser encontrada também na província argentina de Misiones.

    O nome científico Scytalopus pachecoi (uma homenagem ao pesquisador José Fernando Pacheco, que colaborou com as pesquisas de Maurício).
