Grace to You

I want you to open your Bible to the eighth chapter of Mark's gospel. Each of these paragraphs, each of these sections is unique. They vary in emphases and tone and theology. It's hard to be consistent in falling into some kind of pattern week in and week out because they're so unique, these marvelous records of the historical events of the life of our love. Sermons change in form and style from week to week, depending on the nature of the text.

And I say simply to say this week we're going to be looking at a story of a miracle in verses 22 to 26 and at first reading you could say we read the story and thank the Lord for the miracle and pronounce the benediction because it's simple enough for a child to understand, it doesn't need a lot of explanation and embellishment. It is a jewel to be sure, as all the miracles of Jesus are, but it's the setting in which its placed that gives it significant meaning. And at the risk of being a little bit technical, I want to make sure you understand, not just the story but the significance of the story and how it sits in the gospel of Mark, in the chronology of the life of Christ, in the place of instruction regarding the disciples and how that applies to us....
