Mike & Carolyn met through mutual friends during High School. They started hanging out together when Carolyn would drive Mike home from basketball practice in our carpool amongst friends. The sparks really started flying at one party when Carolyn, as she so proudly likes to boast, "made the first move". Eventually Carolyn asked Mike to be her "backup" Senior Prom date. Luckily for Mike, her plans with the first guy fell through :) and we have been together ever since.
They started dating in 2005 when Carolyn was a Senior and Mike was a Junior in High School. They continued dating while Carolyn was away at Boston University and also when Mike went away to Villanova University (and through Carolyn's graduate school at New York Medical College). Carolyn and Mike have been going strong for a full decade now! Carolyn was sure there was no way Mike would be able to surprise her with the proposal, but he did the impossible and completely shocked her!
Mike told Carolyn that he had a work “holiday party” at the Museum of Natural History (not an out-of-the-ordinary venue for an ad agency). Unfortunately, Carolyn’s work party ended up being the very same evening… YIKES! Frantically, Mike had to convince Carolyn to attend his “party”, even if it would be for just a little bit… Because "everyone is so excited to meet you!”
The night of Mike's “party” Carolyn was so rushed that she mistakenly got off a subway stop too soon and had to run six city blocks to the museum in her high heels. Meanwhile, Mike was sweating it out and pleading with security to keep the museum open as they announced, “The museum is now closing” in 12 different languages. When Carolyn arrived, Mike whisked her in and took her to their favorite exhibit- the Hall of Ocean Life. Under the big blue whale, he got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of their lives together!
After a million “yes's", they soaked in the moment and took some pictures. To Carolyn’s surprise, this was only the beginning of the evening! Mike led her outside where a horse and buggy was waiting for them. The handsome cab took the newly engaged couple on a romantic jaunt through Central Park, ending the ride in front of the Ritz Carlton. Mike took Carolyn up to a beautiful suite overlooking Central Park and had her wait outside while he cued up music. She opened the door to 400+ pictures of the two of them lining an aisle of rose petals on the ground, hanging from the ceiling, and forming a heart on the bed! After a solid half hour of tears and phone calls to family and friends, the couple shared a yummy meal at Porter House overlooking Columbus Circle.
This night was a long time coming and the couple was so excited they hardly slept, so they watched the sun rise over Central Park and ordered breakfast to the room- the perfect ending to the perfect proposal!
