Like it or not, this is a season of expectation. The stories are about a savior’s birth, rituals to facilitate the return of light, and keeping flames kindled against all odds. Our culture has fostered expectations in youth about gifts and magical possibilities. Can we set aside theological differences and cultural ambivalence to make room for joy?
