Dave is a commercial diver with over 30yrs experience.
He dives for a species of Abalone called Roei (Haliotis roei). A smaller species growing in shallower waters up to 3m in depth, they grow on rock ledges in highly oxygenated waters usually found in impact zones where surging waves crashing on rocks. Due to this haphazard environment the best way to access good spots for Roei is usually in small swell conditions. Tho rogue waves make the job risky other risk factors include marine life such as sharks (with several sightings over the years) which Dave accepts this as just part of the job. What makes Dave different and stand out in the industry and also separates him from his competitors like aquaculture farms is that he is still fishing traditionally by hand, catching wild grown abalone and this is why his product is highly sort after in overseas markets around Asia.
Daves product is fresh wild caught abalone straight from the rough raw southern ocean.
