Kaleid Theatre (As in Kaleidoscope. As in Collide)

  1. Glow was created for the 2013 Philly Fringe. It explores the deep human need for validation exposed by our compulsion to use, check, and constantly monitor the media in our lives.

  2. Bloopers from our video Towards Creating Glow. At least we had a lot of fun putting this together!

    About Glow:
We desperately check for text messages, emails, and Facebook updates, but what are we longing for? When we reach for our devices, we hope to find something beyond ourselves. How do we write ourselves onto the world? How does the world write itself back onto us?

About Kaleid Theatre (As in Kaleidoscope, as in Collide):
Kaleid Theatre is a physical theatre company that combines an obsession with language, a compulsion to dance, and a thirst for community understanding to devise work.

  3. Glow is about all of us. We live in a time of constant flux, with new media outlets appearing every day. We find new ways to make our increasingly complicated phones beep at us, and then wonder if we control the phones or if they control us. We hear stories about people being fired over social networking posts or about information abuses. Every day, we struggle to establish our own identities in relation to the devices, only to find that innovation has changed the world again.

Glow is our chance to explore this changing world together. The devices lie outside of us, but our compulsions to respond to them and our ambivalence about those responses comes from within. What are we afraid of and why are what are we longing for when we face our devices? In the face of constantly changing technologies, Glow explores the humanity underlying the technologies, and the empowerment of recognizing it.

Glow will be presented in September as part of the Philly Fringe Festival.

The video features Ashley Alter, Nina Giacobbe, Sarah Mitteldorf, Rachel O'Hanlon-Rodriguez, and Samantha Rose Schwab.

  4. This is the opening sound clip sequence and images from our show "Eurydice in Market East," which will be appearing in NYC this summer as "Eurydice in Grand Central."

Eurydice in Market East/ Grand Central is a found text piece, which uses the story of Eurydice to explore the way our society talks about the big questions: love, death, music, art, etc.

We begin the piece by looking forward and asking each other and our friends, "if I tell you the story of Eurydice, what would you, as a modern day person, hope for her?"

Want to know more about the story of Eurydice, the show "Eurydice in Market East/ Grand Central", or our theatre collective? Take a look at our blog:

And while you are there, go ahead and drop us a line and tell us what your hope for Eurydice is.
