Kev's Shed

This short documentary explores the benefits of shoulder-mount over handheld video camera design and reveals why some camera operators still prefer it.

Using JVC’s GY-HM650 and GY-HM850 cameras as examples, the film looks at the common key features of both these models and explains some of the additional functions and design aspects of the GY-HM850 which make it ideal for shoulder-mount applications.

Filmed almost entirely on a JVC GY-HM650 (except the one shot of the HM650 which was shot using an HM850), the film demonstrates the recording capabilities of these cameras. In this instance, the cameras were recording at 1920x1080 50p (H264 @ 50Mbps), but the film reveals the incredibly wide range of resolutions, codec s, file formats and recording modes both these cameras are capable of.

The documentary is presented by Kevin Cook and was filmed entirely at the Video Artisan studio located in Loughton, Essex – on the borders of Epping Forest and within a short distance of the heart of Central London.
