Ultra-massive distributed virtual reality platform and its applications

Distributed virtual reality is an efficient technology of integration, share, display and analysis of massive 3D information on the cyberinfrastructure. Along with the rapid development of satellite and remote sensing technology and the spreading of the scene data acquisition equipment, the requirement of management and processing of 3D environments through networks for all kinds of applications is continually increased. Therefore, efficient processing of massive scene data, rapid reconstruction of large-scale complex environment, highly concurrent collaborative interaction and realtime rendering of virtual environments now become the most important issues in the filed of virtual reality. In this report, we will introduce the distributed virtual reality platform developed by us with the progresses on the key problems including large-scale model preprocessing tools, real time display subsystem, data dispatch and management subsystem for complex dynamic virtual environments, distributed data server cluster to organize and manage huge data, etc.
