Christopher Duro, a member of the San Manuel Band of Serrano Indians, interviews his father Henry Duro, former Tribal Chairman and the key advocate who brought Indian casino gaming to California in the 1980s. They discuss life on the reservation prior to gaming, the Tribal Council, the impact of gaming on the tribe's young people, and the hoped-for legacy for future generations.

Recorded August 26, 2013 on the San Manuel Reservation, located in the San Bernardino foothills near Highland and San Bernardino, Calif. Part of the LACMA9 Art+Film Lab Oral History Project.

For sixteen months, the LACMA9 Art+Film Lab traveled to the Inland Empire, East LA, South LA, and the South Bay to gather community stories. Here, you can listen to the constellation of voices that comprise Los Angeles and beyond. The Oral History Project is supported by a grant from the Jame Irvine Foundation.

People came by themselves, or with family and friends, and interviewed each other or were interviews by Lab filmmakers. Everyone was given a copy of their oral history.

The cities and regions visited are: Redlands, San Bernardino, Altadena, Monterey Park, Hacienda Heights, Montebello, Compton, Inglewood, and Torrance. The Oral History Project also teamed up with two celebrated arts organizations: Self-Help Graphics (Eastside) and Inglewood Cultural Arts, to document the stories of regional artists in specific.
