Lamorinda is located in the central part of Contra Costa County. The central part of the county is a valley traversed by Interstate 680 and Highway 24. The towns east of the hills, on or near Highway 24 and their surrounding areas (Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda) are collectively known as Lamorinda.
Owing to the high quality of its public schools (due largely to both demographics and added support from prosperous parents), this area has become a magnet for affluent families with children.
Each city is distinct from the others, but the three share many similar characteristics as suburban bedroom communities with little industry. The region has been called “wealthy” by the San Francisco Chronicle. The public high schools in each of the cities are part of the Acalanes Union High School District, one of the highest ranked high school districts in California.
With a cluster of restaurants and generally high-end shops in its downtown, Lafayette is considered the retail hub of the region. Orinda is home to the historic Orinda Theatre and the California Shakespeare Theater. Moraga is home to Saint Mary’s College of California.
Lafayette and Orinda both have BART stations and are located along Highway 24. Lafayette’s BART station is located across from the Lafayette hillside memorial. The Lafayette station along with the Orinda’s BART station, are on the Pittsburg/Bay Point–SFO/Millbrae line. Moraga, located to the south, is more isolated. Moraga is connected to Lafayette and Orinda by a pair of two-lane roads and the highway to the north.

On Saturday, February 22nd, 2014, local Realtors Pete Sabine, Michael Moore and Lori O’Brien with Pacific Union Real Estate sponsored a fundraiser event to benefit the Lindsay Wildlife Experience Museum.
The Lindsay Wildlife Experience Museum cares for more than 5,500 injured or orphaned animals every year in the wildlife rehabilitation hospital. The animals inspire the museum environmental education program which provides an unforgettable experience for children and adults.
The purpose of the event was to raise funds to support the museum wildlife hospital and also to give local residents an opportunity to experience the wildlife exhibits the museum has to offer. Over 300 guests had the opportunity to tour the museum, animal hospital and participate in hands-on activities to learn more about native California animal species. Guests also participated in a raffle of items purchased from the museum store including everything from puzzles to Family Museum Memberships.
“The Lindsay Wildlife Museum would not be able to care for the animals or provide community programs without the generosity of its donors. Our fundraiser event raised over $3,300 to benefit the museum hospital” said Sabine.
Pete Sabine and his team sponsor several fundraising events each year that benefit local charities such as the Children’s Hospital Foundation and local communities including the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce.
“The Lindsay Wildlife Museum is one of many unique local assets offering a rich and rewarding experience for Contra Costa County residents. Our real estate team is committed to providing exceptional real estate services while also giving back to the communities we serve” says Sabine.
