1. This is my digital cinematography showreel of films where I worked as DP or DP/ Director over the past 12 months.

It demonstrates my passion for the visual use of the elements, nature, weather and landscape to reflect epic narratives and complex characters in dramatic fiction.

The Music is Ralph Vaughan William's immortal 'Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis'.

  3. End of first term on Digital Cinematography MA at Bournemouth, we were asked to write a 5,000 word essay- or blog, or video essay- on one of the elements of narrative construction that are used by filmmakers to create new stories. The element I chose was genre, particularly the role of landscape, nature and environment in war films, and this is the video essay I wrote and edited.

  4. This is a recent video essay devoted to the critical and contextual analysis of my MA Thesis portfolio. It is designed as a summation of my yearlong Masters studies and focusses on the use of light in paintings and how this relates to lighting for digital cinematography, as well as a continuation of questions I have previously raised on the role of environment as a character within narrative cinematography.

Landscapes: Volume 2 is the second of a 4 part series (so far). Every frame of this video is a raw still from a Canon 5D2 DSLR and processed with Adobe software. In Volume 2 I again show off my beautiful home state of Arizona and I also made several trips to Utah. This video has some iconic landmarks that we have seen before. I felt that showing them again with motion controlled HDR and/or night timelapse would be a new way to see old landmarks.

Most of the motion control for this video was done with the Stage Zero Dolly by Dynamic Perception. Once I got comfortable using the DP dolly I fell in love. I can set up shots now in much shorter times. More importantly for me, it is much smaller and much more portable than my homemade motion control. Without it, shots like the Delicate Arch shot in Utah would be nearly impossible due to the length of the hike. Buy the Stage Zero Dolly if you are looking for quality, inexpensive, easy-to-use motion control. dynamicperception.com/

Music is "Sunshine (Adagio In D Minor)" by John Murphy. #15 here: itunes.apple.com/us/album/sunshine-music-from-motion/id297702863

Saving the best for last . . . thanks to my wonderful wife Laura. Not only does she put up with and support this crazy passion of mine, she helped out on many of these shots.
