  2. Lang Dance Fall 2014 Performance

    B E G I N N I N G B E G I N N I N G
    Choreography/Direction by: Jeanine Durning,
    Lighting design by: Joe Levasseur
    Music mixed by: Jeanine Durning
Made for and with the performers: Tony Carlson, Hailey Kemp, Renk Kocturk, Seta Morton, Mariama Noguera-Devers, Isabel O'Farrill-Rolston, Deiondre Smith, Ella Wasserman-Smith and Sasha Wolfe

Choreographer's Note: This process began with a practice I’ve been engaging for some years now—something I bluntly call nonstopping. The overall project of nonstopping proposes an insistent attention to and negotiation of the ever-shifting, complex composition of thought and how this manifests out into the world, through action and relation. The term nonstop, as opposed to continuous, is a decidedly chosen one because it points to the critical nature of what it takes to keep going. Nonstopping proposes an imperative relationship and essential commitment to movement as a force for potential.

Note: Over the course of our semester together, we have undertaken the difficult and vital task of negotiating a collective studio practice from the ground up, locating for ourselves those enduring workshop conditions that are live, mutable, supportive, skeptical and rigorous. In the process, we have come face to face with questions of authorship, of form, of our historical and contemporary influences, of pedagogy and assumed methodologies of making, and of where our interests truly lie and why. Though these lines of inquiry are never finished, in our interfacing with the event of a New York Live Arts performance, we offer these works - Sarah Michelson

Special Thanks To: Gillian Walsh, Danielle Goldman, Rebecca Stenn, Joe Lavassuer, Meredith Belis
