Growing up, my whole life revolved around fitness but health didn’t come to me until a much later age. From the time I was just a child, I did everything from dance, to field hockey, to intense cardio and workouts. But with all the working out I did, I never really took into consideration my actual well-being, both physically and mentally. Instead, rather irresponsibly, I relied on my workout routines to protect my body and mind. What could go wrong, right?
It wasn’t until I hit my 30s that things started to change. The beating my body was taking from the constant exercise and neglectful eating began to take its toll. My body started shutting down and, at one point, I was in so much pain, I could barely walk. After consulting with doctors, I began to take medication for the pain but I knew I needed to change my ways.
So began my journey towards a healthier, happier lifestyle. I took up yoga in order to better know myself and I fell in love. I began to incorporate some of the concepts of yoga into other workouts that were less punishing yet just as beneficial. I also became more mindful of what I was feeding my body. I ditched the soda and took up drinking loads of water. On top of that, the peace of mind that yoga gave me was astounding. Needless to say, the overall results from changing my life were amazing!
Now, at 40 years old (gasp!), I’m married to the kindest man I know and have two little (very crazy!) boys. I have worked in education as a high school French teacher and guidance counselor for nearly fifteen years. In addition to my normal job, I made the decision to get certified (RYT200) as a yoga instructor with a life-long passion for health and fitness.
I created lapetiteyogi.com not only because I love all things health and fitness, but also because I feel I have something to share. My hope is that my knowledge and experiences will help others lead a better life: mind, body and spirit. I hope you follow along with me as I continue my journey. Hopefully, the experiences I encounter and the guidance I provide will lead you to a healthier, happier life as well.
