  2. Failure is an evening length piece for four people takes place in and around a 16 foot tall structure designed to collapse during the performance. Failure explores deeply personal ideas, measuring effort against limits, both gently and violently, as they relate to self-perception, relationships, and most importantly the body.
Performed to an electronic, abstract sound collage built around the concept of collapse, this dance examines failure as terrifying, spectacular and truly human.

this is the first performance of this dance.

  3. Soundsuits 1 and 2.

This is a dance by Laura Peterson Choreography with Balance Dance Company, Boise Art Museum and Nick Cave's Soundsuits.

This was an exciting opportunity to work with visual artist Nick Cave's Soundsuits to make 2 shorts dances. The piece is performed by Balance Dance Company in Boise, Idaho in August 2012.

The process was short and I was allowed limited access to the Soundsuits in my process so I chose to work instinctually. I was given the direction by the staff of the Boise Art Museum to move the suit and not the self. I loved the simplicity of this physical instruction and explored the feeling, sound and weight of the Soundsuit with the sadness I felt when I put it on. To me I felt it was about hiding and yelling. My work is always abstract and includes an installation deigned with each dance. I found it interesting to make a dance that wasn't entirely of my visual design.
