In January 2015, Shot for Shot: the Lexington Club on Film played to a sold out house at San Francisco's Roxie Theater. The screening was inspired by the news that the Lexington Club--San Francisco's last remaining lesbian-centric queer bar--would be closing in April. The Lex was more than just a bar; it was a community space that felt to many like a home away from home. Its owner, Lila Thirkield, was also uniquely supportive of local artists. The films collected here, shot in and around the Lexington Club over the course of 15 years, range from student shorts to excerpts from critically acclaimed feature films. Together they pay homage to the Lex and offer a snapshot of San Francisco's queer history from the late 90s to the present.
Shot for Shot: the Lexington Club on film was curated and produced by Elena Oxman with assistance from John Raines.
