This film is an abstract composite of my memories and experiences from a trip to Rwanda and Uganda a couple of years ago. It was nothing at all like what I expected. Amid toil and triumph, this is an incredible part of the world, with amazing people doing incredible things. I hope people consider visiting these two countries.
Put on your headphones and watch in a darkened room if you're serious about watching it.
Big thanks to camera assistant Ivan Agerton, Emily Miller (a specific editorial suggestion), and Jongnic Bontemps (awesomely haunting score).
Every couple of months, 68-year-old Ed Zevely rides into the Colorado high country to camp for weeks at a time—and he does it completely alone. Through thunderstorms, open meadows and treacherous passes, he finds his own patch of serenity. Far from the modern world, it’s a place where the only goal is to move and breathe, and where you can truly understand the difference between loneliness and solitude.
Grant Davis is the runner and voice of the film. He's also probably the smartest friend that I have. He can find meaning to just about everything. If he decides to do something, he'll do it right, and then he'll tell you all about why it matters.
I was stoked to team up again with my good friend MP Cunningham to shoot this little film as he always has amazing ideas that make things a million times better.
Sometimes while shooting, I think you can be so overwhelmed and distracted by not only what you see with your eyes but also by what you hear and smell and taste, that it's hard to actually know how to capture what's in front of you. Yet there are other times when the complete opposite is true and everything you sense seems to just ease itself into an image. I think a lot of it has to do with you're intentions, and who you have around you. This was an interesting project because we came into it relatively unscripted and without any real burdening expectations. I think that, coupled with just being with good friends, lent to some good karma. We landed in San Francisco and spent the next 3 days driving north and shooting what we saw along the way.

Jo & Leo from the Team Frab are two 13 year old Free Runners from Dresden. Last sunday it was below minus 10 Celsius. Nevertheless we went out. All my ND filters have been frozen from the spray of snow, while they would take all risk on slippery ground, performing one flip after the other.
