The Liverpool String Quartet consists of Kate Marsden (violin), Sarah Hill (violin II) Daniel Sanxis (viola) and Nick Byrne (cello), and was founded in 2010. Despite being a relatively new group, the LSQ has performed concerts worldwide, to critical acclaim.
The members of the quartet are members of, or collaborate regularly with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as performing with many other orchestras in the UK and Spain. Its members have been trained in Conservatoires such as the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, The Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Valencia, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Royal Academy of Music in London. They have received coaching from and worked with renowned musicians and ensembles including members of the Sorrel Quartet, the Lindsay String Quartet, the Fitzwilliam Quartet, Takács Quartet, Vellinger String Quartet and the London Mozart Trio amongst others.
The Liverpool String Quartet gave its first official concert on April 21st, 2011 in the town of Castellvell del Camp (Spain). On this tour of Spain, the LSQ performed to a wide audience in the cities of Reus(Tarragona), Esparreguera (Barcelona) and La Pobla de Mafumet (Tarragona). In April 2012 the Quartet were invited on a second tour of Spain, where performances were held in Tarragona, Reus, Valencia and the famous Teatre Principal of Valls. In these concerts, they gave the Spanish premiere of Howard Blake’s Flute Quintet op. 493. This work was recorded at the Ermita de Paretdelgada (Tarragona) and played on the the Flute by Nelia Sanxis. In July 2012, the group toured the Balearic Islands performing in the City of Valldemossa (Majorca) and at the prestigious International Festival of Music of Menorca. The LSQ’s latest project was a return to Spain in November. On this tour they performed in the cities of Tarragona, Montserrat, Valencia, Igualada (Barcelona) , Pamplona, and Olite inviting on this occasion the Catalan Clarinettist Carles Pertegaz.
The LSQ have also appeared extensively on TV and radio programs around Europe, including a live performance at National’s Catalunya Musica Radio Station, the BBC Radio Merseyside and National Television of Catalunya TV3.
Next projects for the Liverpool String Quartet includes tours in summer and autumn 2013 and a series of concerts through the year at the Bluecoat of Liverpool, Wirral and North Wales.
