The Local Traveler™

  1. We start our journey in Nonesuch, Ky at Irish Acres Gallery. You may think you have been to some out of the ordinary antique shops before but this one is simply extraordinary. They have items that range from sparkly Christmas decorations all the way to exquisite French furniture and decorative art! Plus while we are there we get reservations at The Glitz and learn how to make their famous nonesuch Kiss! Yum!

For our next stop we go from dessert to… well, more dessert! You know me; I am a sucker for chocolate. Our next stop is a place where the famous Bourbon Ball chocolate candy was invented! You might think it is a “candy” job but after trying it myself I can attest that it is not as easy as it looks. Luckily I narrowly escaped any Lucille Ball moments! Rebecca Ruth Candies was developed in 1919 and the women that created it seem like they were just as strong sweet and sassy as they candies they made!

Our last stop on this week’s road trip is in Whitesburg, Ky at the Courthouse Café. I learn how to make… wait for it… more dessert! I talk with Josephine Richardson about the Cozy Corner right next door to the restaurant and get a cooking lesson making their heavenly Tanglewood pie… you know, being The Local Traveler™ is a pretty sweet gig!

  3. We start our journey on the Brewgrass Trail at Country Boy Brewing. Just one of the several microbreweries in Lexington, Ky that is being embraced by the locals. They have beer here that you just won’t find anywhere else! I just may have found a new job!

Next stop, Kenny's Farmhouse Cheese in Austin, Ky. I put on my gloves and get my hands immersed in the fine art of gourmet cheesemaking. Using old-world, handmade technique yields an exceptional product and you know I can’t leave without a tasting!

We have explored beer and cheese on this journey, so what’s next… beercheese! Our journeys end is at the Beer Cheese Festival in Winchester, Ky where I am asked to be a judge on the Commercial Beer cheese panel. This sounds like a dream come true… Getting to sample the best beercheese Kentucky has to offer? Sign me up!

  5. On this episode of The Local Traveler, we went to the 4th Annual Kentucky Proud Incredible Food Show. It was a day full of meeting, greeting and… eating! With over 100 vendors and exhibitioners, there was something here for everyone.

Sullivan University Stage featured cooking demonstrations including an Iron Chef style competition. I was able to jump on stage and get in on some of the action.

In addition to food vendors, crafts and seminars, there was also a chef you just may have heard of…. Food Network Celebrity Chef, Tyler Florence! This hunky chef inspired me to pick up his latest cookbook… and no, it was not just for the pictures!

Join us now on The Local Traveler as we uncover some Incredible Food!
