Cycling is slow, uncomfortable and only for short distances? Think again. Out of the box thinking of a few dreamers who wanted to create the perfect human powered machine just for themselves resulted in the velomobile. They did such a good job that many others wanted one too. I am one of these people. At first it was just a hobby, but I ended up in the velomobile industry myself and now work for the company SinnerBikes who makes the Mango velomobile in Stadskanaal. For three years I have used a Mango Sport velomobile for a long daily commute: 44km one way, in winter and summer, in the dark and in the rain. In snow, ice and storm. I have no car so I always use the Mango to go to work. Together with other trips, vacation and racing, I ride about 20.000km each year. Even though I ride in bad weather conditions when needed, I prefer of course a sunny day to go cycling, no doubt about it. This video was made on a nice Saturday morning which inspired me to go a notch faster than usual and record it. Average speed: 40km/h Strava: strava.com/activities/913283919
A Christmas video for my friends and family and everybody else who cares to watch!
I've put in a few small editing gags just for fun. All the sections with sound were un-edited and not sped-up or slowed down. I really flew for a bit too even without pulling magic reindeers :-)
I combined business and pleasure. The business was the SPEZI show in Germersheim of special bicycles where I represented SinnerBikes and the pleasure was riding there in a Mango Sport. In total I cycled over 1200km in 6 days Groningen-Germersheim-Groningen. On day three I encountered a German recumbent trike rider (Carsten on his new Velomo trike) who was also cycling to Spezi and we decided to ride together. This video is an account of that day, riding from Bingen to Germersheim.
To accommodate the trike rider, who was not very keen on cycling between cars, we rode mostly on cyclepaths and beautiful cycle routes. It was a very scenic route indeed, a lot of it was along the Selztal: a small river valley that ends in the Rhine.
This Channel is dedicated to anything related to Velomobiles, particularly the Mango which I ride myself. Featured are velomobile meetings and rides, but also everyday life like commuting and shopping.
