The short film La Madre, il Figlio e l’Architetto (The Mother, the Son and the Architect) is about a church in the form of a sphere in Gibellina in Sicily. Petra Noordkamp came across this church by chance and became intrigued by its remarkable design. Her fascination with this building intensified when she discovered that this church was designed by the Italian architect Ludovico Quaroni. He was the father of Emilio Quaroni, a young man with whom Noordkamp had a brief relationship in the 1990s. After the contact with Emilio deteriorated Noordkamp found out in 2001 that Emilio murdered his own mother in the same year. In this film Noordkamp investigate in what prompted Emilio to commit this act, but she particularly wants to reveal how the architectural perception of a building is tinted by an event 15 years earlier.
