  3. Up to the beginning of the 20th century the huge network of canals was the beating heart of the city economy. Our guided tour unveils this lost world and his histories that belong to the story of the city of Milan.
The meeting point is next to the San Lorenzo columns, Le colonne, an ancient church built during the Roman Empire. The we visit the interiors refurnished during Renaissance and the chapel of Sant'Aquilino. The cript below the chapel hides the roman fundations of the temple.
Beyond the arch of the middle age gate Ticinese we enter into this old neighbourhood former location of many merchants and smiths workshops. Then we reach the basilica of Sant'Eustorgio where is located the chapel Portinari, with 15th century frescoes by Vincenzo Foppa.
The last part of our walk takes place along the banks of the canals. Protagonists are the old harbour of the city, the naviglio Pavese and the naviglio Grande. Here we discuss about Leonardo da Vinci and his role as planner of the canals and the machineries he invented for them.
This tour is around two hours and a half.
