1. MUSIC AND INSTRUMENT DESIGN: MIYA MASAOKA, VIDE.O PROJECTION: MICHELLE HANDELMAN, MOVEMENT: MARIKO MASAOKA-DREW, READING: ARNOLD DAVIDSON. Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, 2010. The LED KIMONO has nearly 500 hand sewn LED’s (Light Emitting Diodes) are soldered into a grid an inch apart, creating am extreme low resolution cloth monitor display, where pixels are an inch apart. Used in Installation and performance, this monitor displays in real time and can abstractly reveal movement and shapes. Alternatively, the computer code controlling each individual light can create patterns that move in precise ways. As an interface, it is also tricked out with movement sensors that respond to the motion of the wearer and can process parameters of sound and light.
