23rd July 2014 and it's stage 17 of the 2014 Tour de France from Saint-Gaudens to Saint-Lary Pla d'Adet.

After climbing the final climb of the the stage, the Hors Categorie Pla d'Adet, Sam, my eldest and I watched the tour pass through and then descended the mountain back to our car. The Pla d'Adet is a mountain top finish and I hadn't realised that the pro riders would be descending the same mountain at the same time as ourselves.

I think I'm not a bad descender myself but it's humbling to see the speed and ease that those guys fly past you.

Cycling; it's the best sport in the world. Where else could you play on the pitch (climb the mountain), watch the game (le tour passing by) and then warm down (descend) with the players (riders)?

Excuse the length of the video but I thought it was worth it to catch some of the speed and scale of a ten kilometre descent on the road
