A part of the film shows the main character soaking up different materials by touching them.
Xfrog for Maya was used for the absorbtion of wood.
It allowed us to easily animate growing roots coming out of a tree onto his body and adding side branches and leaves which could also be animated according to his movement.

This is the trailer of our master's degree project "Outside In".
"Outside In" is an animated short film of about five minutes in length.
The story is told in two parts: The first consists of digitally-generated 3D images and the second is formed by a mixture of live action and computer animation.
The basic theme of the project is the social isolation of today's individual.
The hero of the story is a misanthropic old man who tried to escape the world. However, his only wish - to die - can not be fulfilled even by largest endeavor. By an accident he is freed from his dreary existence and ends up in the outside world, where he slowly developes an interest in the environment and social interactions.
