Drew McChesney's thesis installation at Indiana University - Bloomington in spring of '04.
Eight people were asked to decorate a blank room. Each design was photographed (using 4x5 slide film) from a specific angle, height, and distance.
The slides were placed in a lightbox and attached behind an eyehole in a wall constructed in the gallery. The alignment of the eyehole and lightbox correspond exactly with the alignment of the camera used to photograph the designs.
The resulting effect, when peering through the eyehole, is that the photographed room appears to exist in the gallery.
