National Parks HD

  1. This is a collection of my favorite timelapse shots that I took over a 3 week camping road trip with my wife and son this past summer.

    Locations include:
    - Rocky Mountain National Park
    - Zion National Park
    - Monument Valley
    - Mesa Verde National Park
    - Glacier National Park
    - Sawtooth National Forest (Mt. McGowan)

    - Canon 7d with Tamron 17-50mm VC lens
    - GoPro
    - Panasonic HMC40

Shot as JPEG photos, color corrected and batch processed in Lightroom 3, deflickered with LRtimelapse and GBdeflicker, strung together with Quicktime 7 Pro and exported in full 5k resolution, and then edited in Final Cut X. FCPX is pretty awesome in that you never wait for a render whatsoever, not even after doing time remapping to 5k files.

Some things I learned while shooting:
    - my camera has a ton of dead pixels
    - 2 year olds are not the best time-lapse shooting partners, but they do help pass the time
    - you can never let your camera run too long
    - Its probably always best to remove your lens filter when shooting toward sun or moon
    - 17mm on a crop sensor is just not wide enough for many occasions
    - photo flicker is a pain, even in full manual
    - Final Cut X has its upsides and downsides
    - timelapse is addicting

  5. The serene upland farm of Llyndy Isaf, on the shores of Llyn Dinas, is unique in Snowdonia, untouched by intensive farming and home to threatened wildlife of international importance. Sitting within the Nant Gwynant pass, offering 600 acres of extraordinary and peaceful haven for people to get close to nature – and enjoy quiet pursuits such as hiking, kayaking and sailing.

Upon the retirement of the current owner, the National Trust, with the generous support of the public, aims to acquire this land. If successful, protecting it from the commercial market, and the impending development that would follow. The tranquil atmosphere could easily be shattered.

This portrait of the area captures that tranquility.
