Can rebellion and anti-authoritarian music be redeemed? Pastor Rich Braaksma looks at punk rock chords, choruses, and discord in the world and more surprisingly in the pages of Scripture.

“Questioning anything and everything, to me, is punk rock.”
Henry Rollins, Black Flag

“Just at that time some Pharisees approached, saying to Him, "Go away, leave here, for Herod wants to kill You." He said to them, "Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I reach my goal.'”
Jesus in Luke 13:31-32, NIV

“The thread of culture that runs through the entire history of punk is also a dedication to challenging the authoritarian”
Greg Graffin, Bad Religion

“Having disarmed the powers and authorities, [Christ] made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.."
Paul, Colossians 2:15, NIV

“On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses… do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say…”
Jesus in Matthew 10:18-20, NIV

“The magistrates sent word to let you go; therefore come out now and go in peace.” But Paul replied, “They have beaten us in public, uncondemned, men who are Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and now are they going to discharge us in secret? Certainly not! Let them come and take us out themselves.”
Paul and the police in Philippi, Acts 16:36-7

What if? What if the moment you're now living is meant for more? What if what you just did over the last hour was supposed to have held much more meaning, reality, and truth? What if God wants everything you do to matter more; everywhere you are to be more significant; every second you live to hold more eternity?

Often I think that this is exactly what God wants for us. I think its what he's made us for; to know his presence, to experience his being, to be embraced by his love in all things.
