I've been listening to music on vinyl since the age of 6 or 7 for almost three decades until my turntable went kaput in the late 90s. As I look back, I can't help but reminisce about the many thrilling afternoons spent in record stores browsing around and sometimes bringing home these circular lacquered pieces of musical narratives with whatever savings put aside from meagre allowances I'd received during my schooling years. Shops like Kwang Sia, Hua Cheong, Supreme Records and many others are no longer around but they will always be part of my memories.
It was only in 2015 that I bought another turntable thereby resuming my interest in vinyl. Somehow I feel there's a cultural imperative to make this video in order to capture the current vinyl zeitgeist along with the stores and my favourite buys. Most of all, I would like to thank the owners and staff of these stores for graciously allowing me to carry out my filming and trampling all over their privacy. Enjoy the video!
