Olga Shishkina is a prominent Gusli artist (b. Saint Petersburg, Russia) currently living in Helsinki, Finland.

STUDIES

In 1992-2000 she studied gusli, piano, balalaika and guitar at the Andreev School of Music in Saint Petersburg and graduated from it with honours. In 2003 she entered Saint Petersburg Rimski-Korsakov State Conservatoire where she studied gusli and piano, at the same time doing her secondary studies in organ. In 2008 she graduated with highest honours from there. Since September 2008 she has been doing her Master's degree in Finnish concert kantele at Sibelius Academy in the class of Ritva Koistinen.

AWARDS

Olga is a winner of numerous prestigious competitions, among them the International Youth Andreev Competition (1996, 1998, 2000, St. Petersburg) and the 6th All-Russian Competition (2001, Tver) where she became the youngest winner in the competitions history. During her musical career she has been awarded many grants, among them are special grant from the Russian Ministry of Culture, the scholarship from the "New Names" foundation directed by Vladimir Spivakov and others.

CONCERTS

Olga has played in the UK, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Latvia and Lithuania participating in different festivals and giving recitals. In September 2008 she was invited to play in a Finnish premiere of Rodion Shchedrin's opera "Enchanted wanderer" with Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra (cond. John Stärgårds). Before that she had participated in Mariinsky theatre settings, having played in the Rimski-Korsakov opera The Legend of the invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia (cond. Valeri Gergiev). She has also played with Lithuanian National Symphony orchestra and a number of Russian Folk Instruments Orchestras such as Osipov National Academical Orchestra (Moscow) and others.

In addition to that, Olga is interested in other related instruments, too. In July this year she was invited to play Chinese guzheng at Musiikin Aika festival in Viitasaari, Finland.
