This past March, Kyle Field came through Los Angeles in promotion of "Black Grass", his latest LP under the Little Wings banner. The uber-holistic music gurus over at FILTER Magazine came together with the wax masters at Origami Vinyl to give an Echo Park welcome to the prolific musician, illustrator and sometime-Feist collaborator.
The place was packed an hour before he went on as people milled through the store buying rare gems and baubles from Kyle's traveling record bin. We'd been having an unseasonably warm spring and after a day of hard sun beating down on the Origami loft it was feeling like an oven. The heat only added to the emotion and energy of the wry musings and naked honesty characteristic of Little Wings' work, punctuated by Kyle's trademark murmurs and howls. He kept the mood light and hazy between songs with a constant barrage of hilarious and hastily-arranged anecdotes and one-liners--a few of which we have included for your pleasure.
We have two performances from that night to share with you. The first is a cover of Steely Dan's 1975 classic "Bad Sneakers", played live in front of a flower shop down the street from Origami, with Dodger Game traffic hustling past.
The second is a candid and resonant performance of "Mr. Natural", a cut off the new record that we're debuting exclusively at FILTER Magazine's official site. We at OTR are uniformly stoked to be working in conjunction with FILTER in the weeks and months ahead to put more of our videos all up in your ear lids and eye canals. Stay tuned!
