The Orgamites

  1. The most effective way to increase the number of people on the organ donor register in the long term, is to educate the young. At present organ donation may be taught in secondary schools as part of personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education. But this is optional and at the discretion of each individual school. Our new campaign aims to make teaching organ donation easier by improving the resources available to teachers and creating a national network of inspirational speakers to give talks in their local schools.

  2. Although children usually support organ donation when the facts are explained to them, the sad fact is that children who need transplants are much less likely to get them than adults. Organs from adults are rarely suitable and parents are often reluctant to consider donating their child’s organs after a tragedy.
