OUTSpoken

Colorado OutSpoken is now OUTSpoken.

Our new name – OUTSpoken – reflects a new, broader focus, program anchor Eden Lane, says.

“LGBT communities are more interconnected than ever,” said Lane. “What happens in Massachusetts impacts a community in Iowa just as California has an effect in Colorado. Issues like marriage equality, employment, safety and health care ripple from all corners of the country, and this broader scope allows us to acknowledge that in our coverage.”

The first OUTSpoken episode will feature actor/comedian Alec Mapa, best known for his role in Ugly Betty; Judy Shepard, mother-turned-activist and author (The Meaning of Matthew) after the murder of her son, Matthew Shepard; Joe Solmonese, executive director of the Human Rights Campaign, and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper.

OUTSpoken will be a series of prime time specials, perhaps on a quarterly basis, allowing time to respond to viewer interests, ideas and needs, Lane explained. “The time slot demonstrates the ongoing commitment KBDI (Colorado Public Television) has for LGBT community voices and is a rare step for a mainstream media outlet.”

Colorado Outspoken first aired 20 years ago on Channel 12. The OUTSpoken team retains members who have been involved from the beginning while adding some strong new voices. Nita Mosby Henry, founder and director of The Kaleidescope Project, will provide regular commentary. Drew Wilson of milehighgayguy.com website, will bring features and interviews and Matt Kailey, managing editor of OutFront Colorado will be part of regular panel discussions.
