After years of working in finance, Vanessa began to question life, and came to the realization that it needed to change. From consumer accounts for many large banking firms, Vanessa began her new journey as a climber—first novice and now record holder. This film illustrates the pivotal moments that led to Vanessa’s evolution and ability to grasp a different kind of tomorrow.

Everyone discovers their vision and hope for the future in different ways. For some, it’s a sudden epiphany. For others, it’s a long held conviction. But all men and women, at some point, have that moment of realization when they know what they want their tomorrows to be. That’s why Charles Schwab is proud to introduce “Why This Road,” a video series that shows how transformative questions can lead to a better path in life.

I've watched this probably 20 or so times and the thing that strikes me most is the sound design you've created. Typically, there's going to be a music bed underneath the piece, but I love that it's almost contemplative in it's quietness with these sharp sound punctuations. As always Bas, fantastic working with you my friend. I'm always inspired by your work.

Holy sound bites batman! That was amazing. I love the quick cuts. Loved the fact that you can use "shitty" footage and still make a visual masterpiece. This was ground breaking in my opinion... and no music layer! wow!

Thanks Jeff! I did most if the sound, but Dutchman Peter Stoel was responsible for improvements, polish and mix. He upped it massively. Couldn't do it without him.

Nice story of your life's journey. My brother died a year or so ago and I found out about it months later when I accidentally saw my sister in-law at a shopping mall. I didn't find the need to go risking my life climbing around some mountains though. Be careful young Lady.

Nice film but I found all the quick editing and sound design really confusing and very unnecessary IMHO

Echoing what Jeff said: I love the creative use of sound design in this piece, even without music. And Vanessa's story is just incredibly inspiring in itself!

The sound's highs and lows are captivating. This video is truly inspiring for aspiring ones. This is my first video after a few months on Vimeo and your video just made me realise how much I've missed. This is very good though really keen on watching more of your work.

A Documentary without Music but an interesting story and strange but attention capturing transitions.
The highest complement a filmmaker can ever get, it's Unique. Amazing Work :)

Relatable, well shot and produced and a voice I seldom hear. Not just a woman, someone who chose to enrich her life with experience and choosing to climb literal and metaphoric mountains rather than corporate ones. Bravo Bas ! Bravo !
