  1. A Delaware teen’s tragic loss in a battle with childhood cancer has been turned into inspiration and hope for dozens of children through the B+ Foundation.

This year, the foundation has taken its message and work to the race track where DFM News’ Patrick Mairs found they’ve created a one of a kind way to advance the fight against cancer and save lives.

  2. The University of Delaware knows how to win in women’s basketball. The Blue Hens have had a losing record just once in the past 12 seasons. In that same span, Delaware has won 20 or more games nine times, appeared in the NCAA tournament twice and reached the Women’s postseason NIT tournament six times.

But the 2011-2012 season has the makings of something special. Delaware is off to the best start in team history, 7-0 following Monday’s 77-45 rout of Yale at the Bob Carpenter Center, and starting to generate a buzz in Newark and beyond. Delaware is ranked in the national top 25 for the first time ever, currently sitting at #22 in the latest Associated Press poll and entering the USA Today/Coaches’ top 25 this week at #25.

DFM News’ Patrick Mairs paid a visit to the Bob this week for a glimpse at what makes this team a cut above the rest and how Blue Hen nation is reacting.

  3. Twenty percent of the over 350 Delawareans currently enrolled in the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) will be phased out as a 48 month cap on benefits in that program begins. SCSEP provides on-the-job training and a source of income for some low income people 55 and older. People like Dagsboro’s Betty Payne. DFM News’ Patrick Mairs met Payne at the job SCSEP helped her land at the Sussex County courthouse to learn more about the program and its impact from someone who went through it.

  4. The University of Delaware is positioning itself as a leader in developing renewable energy. As DFM News’ Patrick Mairs reports, the school’s history with “green energy” goes back much further than that – especially when it comes to solar technology where UD has played a pioneering role for nearly 40 years.
