Could creativity contribute to classrooms? Could a cable circumvent a catastrophe? Could a click create a connection?

Eidos considers citizens’ connectivity crucial to co-ordinating efficient, effective, and equitable government responses to ongoing challenges and critical humanitarian or natural crises.

Across Australia, in 2012 national testing was criticised for concentrating on literacy and numeracy at the cost of creativity. In response, Eidos convened a state conference ‘The Future of Design Thinking: Expanding Creativity and Innovation in Our Education System’, in connection with James Cook University, Griffith University, Education Queensland, and the State Library of Queensland.

In the aftermath of the devastating Queensland floods, Eidos organised a 2011 state conference on ‘Social Media in Times of Crisis’, in conjunction with the Queensland University of Technology, the University of Southern Queensland, and the Queensland Police Service.

‘Grey literature’ – research often published outside formal commercial publishing channels – can be a powerful source of information is harnessed correctly. In collaboration with the Swinburne University of Technology, National and State Libraries Australasia and the National Library of Australia, in 2012 Eidos convened a national conference called ‘Where Is the Evidence? Policy, Research and the Rise of Grey Literature’, to consider evidence-based decision making in the era of information.

In 2013, Eidos will continue those conversations by observing the contemporary usage of communications technology in classrooms and lecture theatres, and convening a second state conference on social media in times of crisis. A second national conference on grey literature – this time focused on connecting non-commercial research to public policy construction – is also slated for 2013.
