  1. Let’s do a timed lap

Team principal Christian Horner gives the green light for a lap on the Red Bull Ring, the spectacular track hosting the new Austrian Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel & Daniel Ricciardo race each other over the hilly, rollercoaster-like circuit – it’s 60 metres from the lowest to the highest point.

In the midst of the racing action Sebastian’s RB10 becomes transparent, providing rare insights into its inner workings.

Christian issues a rain warning over the team radio: the last sector is getting wet and slippery – time for a quick tyre change without a pit stop …

  2. New Season, New Rules, New Cars

In “Transforming Formula One: 2014 Rules Explained” Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel explain the new Formula 1 regulations - more numerous and complex for the 2014 season than ever before.

Sebastian drives his winning car from last year which gets gradually being re-engineered to form the new RB10.

A fascinating visual sequence takes us through the process. To bring this metamorphosis to life, both the previous technology and the new car’s inner workings were recreated down to the last detail – complete with faithfully reproduced textures.

  3. Felix Baumgartner opens the door of his capsule, steps out into the open at an altitude of more than 120,000 feet and gets the go from ground control:

Two years before the actual live event we visualized Felix’ sensational leap out of the stratosphere in a completely computer-generated environment.

  4. F1 Dolby Atmos Cinema Trailer

Early morning at the race track. An aggressive engine sound gradually emerges from the stillness. A flock of magpies cackle as they rise from a stack of tyres. The racing car passes at close quarters. Nose, tyres and wings are mounted with the ratchet and pneumatic screwdriver. Sebastian Vettel inserts his earplugs. The entire noise of the pit garage is muted and sounds as if muffled by cotton wool.

The suspension of the clips mainly builds up through the noises and sound design. The clips have been specially produced to showcase the new cinema sound system “Dolby Atmos”: in movie theatres the audio experience takes full and best effect.

“Dolby Atmos” enables a three-dimensional sound arrangement. Sounds can be moved through the movie theatre in virtually all directions. For the first time, each individiual speaker can be controlled separately, with additional speakers installed in the ceiling of the cinema and channel feeds for each speakers.

In addition to footage from the 2013 launch clip “Rhythm of the Factory”, we have also used shots from the 2013 RBR filming day in Barcelona.

Special thanks to “Whisper Films” (London) as well as “Prism” and “Munderbar!” (London) for providing this footage.

  5. Breakdance Moves in Super-Slow-Motion Stereo 3D, plus a Million Drops of Water

With parcour artist Ryan Doyle, seven dancers from 4-time world champion breakdance crew “Flying Steps” show off remarkable power moves in stereo 3D and super-slow-motion.

And when the moves are at their most thrilling, time practically stands still – taut muscles, concentration, power, acrobatics and the very special art of the athletes become truly visible.

By bringing in water as an additional, dramatic element within the performance, we managed to intensify the stereo 3D effect.

Peter Clausen Film & TV (PCFT) is an independent film production company and creative agency, known for creating work that is powerful, innovative and visually extraordinary.

Over the course of 25 years and through more than 4,000 productions, we have built up a reputation across many digital disciplines: from CG animation to live action, from 2D to stereo 3D, from underwater to aerial cinematography, for screens large and small, to entertain audiences of one or one billion.

Driven by a passion for outstanding visuals, we have always been amongst the first to embrace new technologies. We optimize, design and build special constructions and technical solutions that allow us to achieve our intentions and realize our ideal conceptions.

PCFT is probably best known for its CG productions in the field of extreme sports and Formula 1 racing. Our track introductions for the new Grand Prix circuits and the gripping duels between the Red Bull Racing Cars have become both a symbol and yardstick for quality animation in international sports media.
