Pianos in the Parks

  1. Make Music Chicago is a FREE, citywide, DIY celebration of the musician in us all.

The International Music Foundation is proud to present Make Music Chicago. Every June 21st, Make Music Chicago brings together Chicagoans to celebrate their ability to make music, regardless of age, ability or preferred musical style.

Unlike a typical music festival, Make Music Chicago is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician—young and old, amateur and professional—takes to the streets, parks, plazas, and porches of Chicago to share music of all genres with friends, neighbors and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

Based on the French Fête de la Musique, Make Music Chicago was first presented in 2011. Chicago joins 800 cities in 120 countries across the globe, making the Fête de la Musique the world’s largest single day music festival. Make Music Chicago is also a member of the Make Music Alliance, connecting Chicago with over 60 other U.S. cities in celebrating this day of music.

  5. Okay, folks. Here’s the challenge. Sometime before July 19th, we want all of you to contribute videos of you playing any of the following pieces (at least 15 seconds long) on any one of the park pianos. In this video is Kuang-Hao Huang, Artistic Director of Make Music Chicago. Follow his example and send us your clips!

Bach: Prelude in C Major from Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I
    Beethoven: Für Elise
Chopin: C# minor Nocturne (op. post)
    Joplin: Maple Leaf Rag
Bizet: The Ball (for piano 4-hands)
OR if there is a piece you think people would like to contribute to and want us to add, let us know.

Email your video clip directly to us at mmc2015@rushhour.org. If you’re on social media, be sure to also post your video and tag it with #makemusicchi and #pianosintheparks.

Once we have all the videos, we will then splice together short clips of each piece into one complete performance of the work by all of you who have contributed! When we’re done, we’ll post them on social media for all to enjoy!
