  3. The accompanying animation is made from a scan of standing structures by James Miles (ACRG) that were excavated by the Portus Project between 2007 and 2009. The model contains over 700 million points and takes you on a virtual trip that begins with a view of the west-facing side of the castellum aquae that stands at the eastern end of the northern wing of the Palazzo Imperiale, a complex that was initially constructed under Trajan and continued in use until c. the middle of the 6th c AD. The visit then takes you around to the northern side, where you can see the earlier Claudian quay that was incorporated into its northern face. It then moves around to the east, revealing detail of the Trajanic quay that lay to the east of the Palazzo Imperiale. After then moving over the footings of an amphitheatre-shaped building of the late 2nd to e 3rd c AD date, the video then returns northwards towards the the Castellum Aquae along the top of a defensive wall of late 5th c AD date. Details of the structure that appear in this video can be found in S. Keay, G. EarL and F. Felici 2011, Excavation aand Survey at the Plazzo Imperiale 2007-2009, In S. Keay and L. Paroli, (eds) Portus and its Hinterland. Archaeological Momographs of the British School at Rome 18: 67-93. London, BSR.

  5. The video shows a dji Inovations S800 spreading wings drone mounted with a Canon Powershot. The camera is remotely controlled via a WIFI network providing a live feed in order to accurately position the drone over the archaeological features. The photography was undertaken by Dimosthenis Kosmopoulos, Leandro Cucinotta and Emanuele Casagrande Cicci.
