This Memorial Day History launches its much anticipated four-night event revisiting one of the most talked-about TV series of our time: Roots.
Our goal was to create an emotional, memorable teaser that treated the content with historical accuracy. Based on authentic schematics of actual slave ships, we created a 3’ x 4’ ink illustration on paper. The practical illustration became the backbone of our animation with 3D fluids added to simulate ink flowing from a pen.
The genesis of the idea for this spot was born more than 6 months before we started production.
Stories of Navy SEALs are always captivating, from “American Sniper” to “Lone Survivor” to “Zero Dark Thirty”. This summer History’s take on the SEALs will focus on Team Six, the most elite of the Special Ops.
We originally created this teaser for 2015’s ad sales. The mini-series was green-lit (in part due to this teaser, we like to think) and the spot was tweaked for on-air promotion.
Everyone loves a good treasure hunt and the search of the sunken RMS Republic might be one of the most exciting. Rumored to be carrying gold coins that could be valued at over $5 billion when the ship went down in 1909, if recovered, the treasure could be the largest recovery in history.
For the promo package we recreated the iconic ship now lying on the Atlantic seafloor in the end page and focused on close-up details in the title cards.
In 2009 the Sci Fi channel relaunched as SyFy. ManvsMachine were invited by fellow London design studio Proud to collaborate from the pitch stage of this complete rebrand project — tasked with designing the new on-air look.
