1. Always pleased to attend a party, our PufferSpheres have had invitations to everything from black tie dinners and award ceremonies on our doorstep to music festivals and corporate product launches on the other side of the world. Each event brings its own excitement, its own pressures and its own fun, but nothing can compare to the PufferSpheres latest outing at Burning Man Festival.

World famous for being an ‘experiment in community art’, Burning Man takes place in the middle of Nevada’s Black Rock Desert and sees over 65,000 people co-exist in elaborately built camps and entertainment arenas for 7 days.

Initially hesitant to recommend using a PufferSphere in such a harsh environment, it was only after speaking to our latest PufferPartner and Burning Man aficionado, Travis Holm that we knew he was the perfect partner to rise to the challenge of dust and dessert proofing an interactive PufferSphere XL.

Joining Travis and 65,000 other ‘Burners’ was one lucky member of the PufferTeam who helped rig the sphere as part of a 1980’s themed nightclub in the ‘Planet Earth’ camp. Fitting in perfectly amongst an array of sculptures, art cars and elaborate entertainment venues; the interactive PufferSphere XL added to an already other worldly setting.

Thrilled to not only welcome a new American PufferPartner to the family, but also to have become ‘Burners’ for a week, huge thanks go to Travis and the team at Ouroboros Sphere.

  2. Attending CHI 2014 in Toronto, Pufferfish showcased our interactive PufferSphere as an interface for 'human computing interaction'.

Coupling the display with a projection mapping placed in-front of the viewer, users were invited to cycle through three states on the sphere which included two abstract sets of visuals where users interactions on the PufferSphere corresponded with the projection viewed in front of them and a third state of an interactive globe which triggered Hyperlapse videos of Google Streetview locations placed at hotspots around the world.

A fascinating conference investigating the world of Human Computer Interaction, Pufferfish would like to thank Dr Julie Williamson from the University of Glasgow for both introducing us to the world of HCI and her support in having us at CHI. Look out for some very exciting research projects from Julie and the team at Glasgow University using the PufferSphere soon.

  3. A centerpiece within the new 'Scotland's Time Lords' exhibition at 'Our Dynamic Earth’, a hanging 1.2m PufferSphere tells the geological story of Earth from the formation of the continents as we know them through to the cause of earthquakes and volcanoes.

An exhibition dedicated to the work of James Hutton (who is commonly viewed as the father of modern geology); Our Dynamic Earth sits at the foot of an extinct volcano which in 1785 was used as the basis of Hutton's research on rock formations which still stand true to this day.

A quite amazing exhibition, we would encourage anyone visiting Edinburgh to pay a visit.

  5. Celebrating the life and works of the iconic Dutch artist M.C. Escher, the ‘Escher in het Paleis’ museum in The Hague is a treasure trove of drawings, carvings and interactive experiences all focused around the often mathematical inspired impossible structures and scenes which Eshcer is famous for.

Consistent with the theme, an interactive PufferSphere M display adds a new perspective to the museum, allowing visitors to explore a hidden world of floating islands through wiping away Escher inspired wormholes on the surface of the sphere.

A real pleasure to be able to contribute to the museum of such an iconic and renowned artist, Pufferfish were delighted that our display was deemed worthy of being a centerpiece amongst an array of mind bending, design and art.
