Nothing Impossible is taken from the album Alterations and is also the title track of a digital EP released in Feb 2012. This was my second foray into animation after The Death Of Copyright, and I chose to illustrate this very sad pop/rock anthem with a touching tale about a little pink fish searching for a lost friend. It parallels the song lyric (concerning the suicide of someone I knew well many years ago) with a host of colourful creatures and random household objects, the odd little twist of humour and a fair dollop of poignancy.

The majority of it was created with coloured card that happened to be lying around, handmade into shapes as I saw fit. I certainly didn't study any real sea life, so any resemblance there is purely coincidental! Although it didn't have to be as tightly timed as The Death Of Copyright, I had a rough storyboard in mind with certain staging posts that had to be reached to make it all fit by the end. Again, it was done at a fairly jerky 12.5 frames per second, because it really is such a time consuming process (30 hours or so in this case), and because it effects a naive charm which is really rather lovely to my eyes. Slicker is not automatically better.

Owing to the mysterious whims of the camera (and no doubt my dodgy budget lighting), the colour would sometimes appear much more vivid than at other times. I really had no control over this. However, I thought this strange shifting actually gave the piece an interesting quality, in that it almost resembled the variations in sunlight in water.

There are a few slightly obscure cultural references lurking within this video. One, in the glaringly pink underground section, references 'Eunoia' by Christian Bok, an astonishingly odd book with chapters restricted to the use of one vowel at a time. Another is a loving recreation of the 'we must perform a quirkafleeg' screen from the early 80s computer game, Jet Set Willy.
