Rare

  1. In May 2013, Rare and their Sustainable fishing program partners organized a workshop that brought together members of fishing cooperatives from Mexico and Ecuador. This workshop was a manifestation of the shared learning strategy Rare built into the sustainable fishing program model. By having sustainable fishing staff from all countries trained together and launching campaigns at the same time, they would share technical advances and innovations between campaign sites.

This workshop in Galapagos, Ecuador had fishermen from fishing coopertives in Mexico and Ecuador share their experiences and tools with each other to create even stronger organizations when they return home. At the end of this workshop the members of the Mexican Cooperatives had new knowledge, tools and expertise to take back to their communities and implement in their cooperatives.

To conserve imperiled species and ecosystems around the world, Rare inspires people to care about and protect nature.

Rare designs programs that benefit both people and nature. To do this Rare trains, and supports, local conservation leaders to implement what's known as a "Pride Campaign." A Pride Campaign inspires people to take pride in the species and habitats that make their communities unique, while also giving them alternatives to environmentally destructive behaviors such as overfishing, illegal logging, unsustainable agriculture and poaching.
